Not sure which file?

Use these file rules when you are comparing formats or devices.

Windows

Most users: Windows x64 .zip

Use .7z only if you prefer a compact archive. ARM64 only applies when the project publishes a matching Windows ARM64 asset.

Linux

Most users: x64 AppImage

Use tar.gz or tar.xz when you want a manual folder layout. ARM64 only when your Linux OS and device are ARM64.

macOS

Most users: macOS universal .app.tar.gz

The universal archive covers Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. Keep the archive until the app opens successfully.

Steam Deck

Most users: x64 AppImage

Use Desktop Mode for first launch and permission prompts. Steam Deck is x64; do not choose ARM64 assets.

Windows x64

Most Windows 10 and Windows 11 PCs should start with x64. ARM64 is only for systems that explicitly need it and when the project lists a matching build.

Linux and Steam Deck

Steam Deck uses SteamOS, so this MVP treats it as a Linux target. Prefer AppImage or the Linux archive listed by the project assets.

macOS

Use the universal package currently published for Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.

Steam Deck

Use the Linux guidance first. This MVP intentionally avoids deep Steam Deck manager setup instructions.

Check before opening the file

Check the domain before trusting a file.
Prefer project-controlled asset URLs or release pages.
Match the file name and platform before opening anything.
Avoid ad-style buttons and bundled download managers.
Do not install extra tools that a release page did not require.
